Thumbnail overwrite via unsanitized streaming filename
Published Aug 21, 2025 · Updated Aug 21, 2025
Path traversal in Mattermost allows remote authenticated users to overwrite file attachment thumbnails through file-streaming APIs. The file-streaming APIs resolve thumbnail destination paths from uploaded filenames without neutralizing traversal segments. The attacker must hold file-upload permission; exploitation changes an existing thumbnail and has no reported confidentiality or availability impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=10.10.0
- Affected versionversion=10.5.0 <=10.5.8
- Affected versionversion=10.8.0 <=10.8.3
