Local file disclosure via external entity resolution
Published Nov 10, 2025 · Updated Nov 12, 2025
XXE injection in CycloneDX Core (Java) 2.1.0 through 11.0.0 allows remote attackers to read local files via crafted XML BOMs. CycloneDxSchema.getXmlSchema creates a SchemaFactory whose external DTD and schema access protocols remain enabled during BOM validation. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled XML to the validation path, and the documented consequence is confidentiality loss without data modification or service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
