Host file read and write via incorrect chown
Published Nov 18, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Permission handling in KubeVirt before 1.6.1 allows local users to read and write privileged host files through hostDisk DiskOrCreate. DiskImgCreator.mountHostDiskAndSetOwnership changes the ownership of an existing attacker-selected path instead of limiting that operation to a disk it creates. Exploitation requires the HostDisk feature gate and permission to create a VM using DiskOrCreate; affected 1.7 prereleases begin at 1.7.0-alpha.0.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
