CVE-2025-6426Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Command execution via unclassified Terminal configuration files

Published Jun 24, 2025 · Updated Apr 13, 2026

File-handling errors in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird before 140 and ESR before 128.12 allow remote attackers to induce command execution on macOS. The sExecutableExts and kNonBinaryExecutables lists omit .terminal, causing downloaded Terminal configuration files to bypass executable classification and the warning. A macOS user must open the downloaded file; Terminal.app then runs its embedded command with that user’s privileges.
