CVE-2025-64181Public exploit

Application crash via uninitialized decode buffer

Published Nov 10, 2025 · Updated Nov 10, 2025

Use of uninitialized memory in OpenEXR 3.3.0 through 3.3.5 and 3.4.0 through 3.4.2 allows local users to crash an EXR-processing application. The exr_decoding_run path allocates a heap scratch buffer, an incomplete decode leaves bytes unwritten, and generic_unpack and related sinks branch on or consume those bytes. Exploitation requires processing a crafted EXR file; the demonstrated consequence is undefined behavior or an application crash, not data modification or code execution.
