CVE-2025-64031Hinoki check available

Heap overwrite via unchecked original filename copy

Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026

Heap-based buffer overflow in libarchive 3.8.0 through 3.8.1 allows context-dependent attackers to overwrite heap memory during gzip writing. archive_compressor_gzip_open uses strcpy to copy the original-filename option into a heap buffer without checking the destination size. Reachability requires a caller to supply an attacker-controlled original filename; archive input does not populate that option, so ordinary extraction is unaffected.
