Unauthenticated service crash via overlong root URL
Published Jan 29, 2026 · Updated Jan 29, 2026
Stack overflow in Monkey HTTP Server through commit f37e984 allows remote attackers to crash the service with a crafted HTTP request. A slash-plus-NUL URL bypasses the ret_file check, after which mk_http_index_lookup copies an overlong path beyond mk_http_init's 1,024-byte tmppath stack buffer. No authentication or user interaction is required; the grounded impact is interruption of the server process, not demonstrated code execution.
