Authenticated media reassignment via unchecked AJAX object IDs
Published Dec 31, 2025 · Updated Dec 31, 2025
Missing authorization in Marco Milesi WP Attachments 5.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to reassign media attachments via admin AJAX. The wpa_attach handler in inc/meta-box.php passes attacker-supplied attachment_id and post_id values to wp_update_post without checking edit rights for either object. Contributor-level access is required; the action changes an attachment's parent post, enabling unauthorized media reassignment without broader site control.
