Host-file overwrite via unchecked OCI annotation paths
Published Oct 27, 2025 · Updated Oct 27, 2025
Path traversal in Docker Compose 2.34.0 through 2.40.1 allows remote attackers to overwrite host files through crafted OCI artifacts. The OCI remote loader in pkg/remote/oci.go passes annotation paths to filepath.Join and os.Create without confining the result to its cache directory. A Compose user must resolve an attacker-controlled OCI artifact; even read-only config or ps operations can overwrite any file writable by that user.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
