Local crash via unchecked file-space page size
Published Jun 19, 2025 · Updated Jun 23, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in HDF5 1.14.0 through 1.14.6 allows local users to crash a parsing process with a crafted HDF5 file. H5O__fsinfo_decode accepts a zero or oversized file-space page size, allowing H5FS__sect_find_node to remove an element from an empty or invalid skip list and read beyond its heap allocation. The file must be processed by an HDF5-linked application; the demonstrated consequence is a process crash, not proven code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
