Application crash via unchecked cache-image entry length

Heap-based buffer overflow in HDF5 1.14.6 and earlier allows local users to crash applications by opening a crafted HDF5 file. H5C__reconstruct_cache_entry advances through metadata cache-image data and copies an attacker-controlled entry size without verifying that the remaining input buffer is large enough. Local access to supply and parse a malformed HDF5 file is required; the demonstrated consequence is an out-of-bounds read and process abort.
