SYSTEM code execution via junction-based file overwrite
Published Feb 10, 2026 · Updated Feb 10, 2026
Link-following in FortiClient for Windows 7.0.0 through 7.0.14, 7.2.0 through 7.2.12, and 7.4.0 through 7.4.4 allows local users to write files. The FortiClient Configuration Daemon follows an attacker-created junction while handling crafted named pipe messages, causing its privileged service to overwrite an attacker-chosen file. Low-privileged code execution on the Windows endpoint is required; the overwrite enables arbitrary code execution as SYSTEM and can interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <=7.0.14
- Affected versionversion=7.2.0 <=7.2.12
