Unverified password change in Element Matrix Authentication Service 0.20.0 through 1.4.0 allows remote authenticated users to alter accounts. The GraphQL password checks treated a completed verification call as success without testing whether its result represented a password mismatch. Exploitation requires an authenticated MAS session and an enabled local password database, enabling password or e-mail changes and account deactivation.
