Script execution via unescaped MQTT message payloads
Published Oct 16, 2025 · Updated Oct 16, 2025
Cross-site scripting in EMQ MQTTX 1.12.0 allows remote attackers to execute scripts through crafted MQTT message payloads. TreeNodeInfo converts a selected payload to text for UI rendering without first escaping HTML metacharacters in XML-like input. Execution requires receipt of attacker-controlled content from an untrusted or multi-tenant broker and a user viewing the message; scripts run in the application UI and can access renderer-exposed data or initiate UI actions.
