Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unrestricted user meta writes
Published Jul 23, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in NooTheme Realty Portal – Agent 0.1.0 through 0.3.9 allows remote authenticated users to gain Administrator access. The rp_user_profile() AJAX handler passes client-supplied meta keys and values from $_POST directly to update_user_meta() without an authorization check or safe-key allowlist. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to overwrite wp_capabilities, causing subsequent requests to run with full WordPress Administrator privileges.
