Stored XSS via unescaped Codex submit labels
Published Feb 2, 2026 · Updated Feb 2, 2026
Stored XSS in Codex-based HTML forms in affected MediaWiki releases allows remote authenticated users to run scripts in users' browsers. CodexHTMLForm and HTMLButtonField pass system-message-derived submit labels to raw HTML construction without escaping the label at the sink. Exploitation requires rights to alter a system message and passive interaction by another user who opens a Codex-rendered form.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
