Code execution via case-insensitive file overwrite
Published Oct 3, 2025 · Updated Oct 3, 2025
Code injection in Cursor CLI Agent 1.7 and earlier allows attackers to execute code by overwriting protected configuration files. Its sensitive-file check compares paths case-sensitively, so alternate-case paths resolve to protected .cursor/cli.json files on case-insensitive filesystems. Exploitation requires prompt injection and user interaction in a context the agent processes; successful writes can execute code with the user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
