Code execution via project configuration override
Published Oct 3, 2025 · Updated Oct 3, 2025
Code execution in Anysphere Cursor 1.7 and earlier allows remote attackers to run shell commands when a user runs Cursor CLI in a malicious repository. Cursor CLI automatically loads .cursor/cli.json from the working directory and lets its permissions override global settings, enabling project rules or other prompt injection to invoke permitted shell commands. Exploitation requires a user to obtain a malicious repository and run the CLI inside it; resulting commands execute with that user’s local privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
