Local privilege escalation via AFD endpoint race
Published Nov 11, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Untrusted pointer dereference in Microsoft's Windows AFD for WinSock allows local users to elevate privileges on affected Windows systems. Concurrent information, bind, unbind, connect, or transfer operations can free an AFD_ENDPOINT after afd.sys fetches its pointer but before dereferencing it. Low-privileged local code must win the race from outside an AppContainer; successful exploitation corrupts kernel memory and gains system privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
