Arbitrary command execution via unescaped VLAN entries
Published Nov 13, 2025 · Updated Jul 5, 2026
Command injection in D-Link DIR-823G firmware 1.0.2B05_20181207 allows attackers with file-write access to execute commands on the router. The timelycheck and sysconf binaries accept eth- or wlan-prefixed entries from /var/system/linux_vlan_reinit, interpolate them into ifconfig and vconfig command strings, and pass the results to system() without escaping shell metacharacters. Exploitation requires control of that file, after which injected commands run with the binaries' device privileges.
