Process crash via unchecked custom-tag pointers
Published Jun 1, 2026 · Updated Jun 1, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in GPAC MP4Box before 26.02.0 allows attackers to crash the process by supplying a crafted MP4 file. In gf_isom_apple_set_tag_ex, the custom-tag branch accepts either a custom name or meaning, then indexes both pointers without individual NULL checks. Processing malformed esds and incomplete box structures is required; the resulting zero-page read terminates MP4Box without disclosing or altering data.
