CVE-2025-6032Network attack vector

VM image compromise via disabled TLS verification

Published Jun 24, 2025 · Updated Aug 31, 2026

Improper certificate validation in Podman 4.8.0 through 5.5.1 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to replace downloaded VM images. The OCI pull path in pkg/machine/ocipull converts its default TLS option into an explicit instruction to skip certificate checks. Exploitation requires a user to run podman machine init while an attacker intercepts registry traffic, enabling a substituted image to control the created VM.
