Path traversal in NNCP before 8.12.0 allows remote authenticated users to read or overwrite files via crafted packet paths. Freq and file packet handlers use attacker-supplied relative paths without confining the resolved target to the configured freq or incoming directory. Packets must come from a configured peer whose authenticated traffic is accepted; impact is limited to files reachable by the NNCP process.
