CVE-2025-59729

Out-of-bounds read via DHAV duration offset underflow

Published Oct 6, 2025 · Updated Oct 6, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in affected FFmpeg 8.0 development snapshots allows context-dependent attackers to read memory via crafted DHAV files. In libavformat/dhav.c get_duration, a 32-bit header offset can place end_pos before end_buffer_pos, and their subtraction underflows before the duration read. Processing a DHAV file larger than 0x100000 bytes with a crafted offset is required; the resulting access reads before the allocated buffer and can expose process memory.
