Privilege escalation in Entrust nShield appliances through 13.6.11 or 13.7 allows physically proximate attackers to gain a host OS root shell. Legacy GRUB accepts unauthenticated boot-menu edits and passes an init=/bin/sh kernel argument, starting a root shell at boot. Exploitation requires direct, hands-on USB access during startup; it compromises the appliance host OS but not the embedded HSM or its cryptographic keys.
