CVE-2025-59682Network attack vector

File writes via prefix-based archive path check

Published Oct 1, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Partial directory traversal in Django 4.2 before 4.2.25, 5.1 before 5.1.13, and 5.2 before 5.2.7 allows attackers to write files. The archive target_filename check compares absolute paths with startswith(), so a sibling path whose name begins with the target directory passes containment validation. Exploitation requires a crafted archive to reach archive.extract(), including through the startapp or startproject template commands, and permits writes outside the selected directory.
