Authentication-material disclosure via variable-time secret comparison
Published Sep 22, 2025 · Updated Sep 22, 2025
Timing side channel in OnGres SCRAM before 3.2 allows remote attackers to infer authentication material through repeated SCRAM exchanges. ScramFunctions.verifyClientProof and verifyServerSignature use Arrays.equals for secret comparisons, exposing matched-prefix length through response timing. Exploitation requires high-precision timing measurements and repeated attempts; the resulting disclosure is limited to sensitive authentication material.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
