Service interruption via exponential regex backtracking
Published Sep 8, 2025 · Updated Sep 9, 2025
Regular expression denial of service in IEatUranium238 Cattown before 1.0.2 allows remote attackers to interrupt services with crafted Markdown. The Markdown parser applies potentially exponential regular-expression matching to attacker-controlled input, causing excessive backtracking and sustained CPU or memory consumption. The affected application must pass untrusted Markdown to the library; successful exploitation exhausts resources without reading or modifying data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
