Uncontrolled resource consumption in Go standard library archive/tar before 1.24.8 and 1.25.0 through 1.25.1 allows attackers to interrupt services. Reader.Next reaches readGNUSparseMap1x0, which accepts an unbounded count of GNU tar pax 1.0 sparse-region data blocks and accumulates them in memory. A user or application must process a crafted archive; compression amplifies a small input into allocations large enough to exhaust memory and disrupt the consuming process.
