Terminal display manipulation via unescaped log content
Published Aug 29, 2025 · Updated Sep 2, 2025
ANSI escape injection in Tokio tracing-subscriber before 0.3.20 allows remote attackers to manipulate terminal output through logged input. The fmt formatters rendered user-controlled message and error Display content without escaping ESC, BEL, and other terminal control characters. Exploitation requires an application to log attacker-controlled text to a terminal and a user to view that output; consequences include misleading or cleared displays and altered title bars.
