Guest-to-host privilege escalation via sparse vCPU mask
Published Oct 31, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Xen 4.15 and newer allows guest OS users to disrupt the host or elevate privileges via a Viridian hypercall. vpmask_set() converts an HV_VP_SET Sparse vCPU bitmap into Xen's internal format without adequate bounds checking and writes beyond its destination. Only x86 HVM guests with Viridian enabled can reach the flaw; consequences include a host-wide crash, information disclosure, or guest-to-host privilege escalation.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
