Application crash via unchecked sample-format name
Published Sep 2, 2025 · Updated Sep 2, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in rust-ffmpeg 0.3.0 allows attackers to crash applications via an unrecognized sample format. The name() method passes the NULL result of av_get_sample_fmt_name() directly to CStr::from_ptr() without checking whether the format is recognized. The affected code follows commit 5ac0527, and reachability requires a consuming application to pass attacker-influenced format values to name().
