Application crash via unchecked graph-dump allocation failure
Published Sep 2, 2025 · Updated Sep 2, 2025
Null pointer dereference in rust-ffmpeg 0.3.0 after commit 5ac0527 allows remote attackers to crash an embedding application through dump(). The dump() method passes the unchecked result of avfilter_graph_dump() to CStr::from_ptr, which treats a NULL allocation result as a valid C string. The path is reached only when application code invokes dump() and the underlying FFmpeg allocation fails; the reported consequence is a process crash.
