Root code execution via recoverable default credential
Published Sep 12, 2025 · Updated Sep 12, 2025
Hard-coded credentials in TOTOLINK X2000R firmware 2.0.0-b20230727.1043.web allow remote attackers to gain root access and execute arbitrary code. The root password uses MD5-crypt in the world-readable /etc/shadow.sample file, enabling recovery of the default credential. Network access to an administrative interface or another login service is required; successful login grants full device control.
