Prototype pollution via unsafe translation key traversal
Published Sep 24, 2025 · Updated Sep 24, 2025
Prototype pollution in counterpart 0.18.6 and earlier allows attackers to modify Object.prototype through crafted translation keys. The translate method fails to reject prototype-chain elements before resolving its first key argument, so proto segments add arbitrary properties to Object.prototype. A consuming application must pass attacker-controlled keys and use a separator configuration that exposes the chain; a crash or code execution then depends on downstream application behavior.
