Application-wide prototype pollution via crafted message keys
Published Sep 24, 2025 · Updated Sep 24, 2025
Prototype pollution in @messageformat/runtime 3.0.1 allows remote attackers to modify Object.prototype through crafted message keys. Messages.addMessages follows attacker-supplied key paths through ordinary objects, so proto selects Object.prototype before the final property assignment. Reachability requires an application to pass attacker-controlled message data, after which injected properties are inherited by subsequently accessed objects.
