Local command execution via logfile shell interpolation
Published Jan 28, 2026 · Updated Jan 28, 2026
OS command injection in BrowserStack browserstack-local 1.5.8 allows local users to execute commands through a crafted logfile value. Local.startSync and Local.start pass the value to child_process.exec in an unquoted shell redirection command, where metacharacters create additional commands. Exploitation requires control of the Node.js API input and executes with the privileges of the process running the package.
