Root privilege escalation for local users
Published Jun 11, 2025 · Updated Apr 13, 2026
Privilege escalation in Mozilla VPN 2.27.0 and earlier on macOS allows local users to gain root privileges via local access. Mozilla has not published the vulnerable component or the operation that mishandles untrusted local input; the linked security bug remains access-restricted. A normal macOS user account is required, and successful exploitation yields root privileges on the same host; other operating systems are unaffected.
