Simulator crash via undersized waypoint decode buffer
Published Jun 5, 2025 · Updated Jun 5, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in PX4 Autopilot 1.12.3 allows local users to crash the simulator via crafted MAVLink packets. MavlinkReceiver::handle_message_trajectory_representation_waypoints decodes a TRAJECTORY_REPRESENTATION_WAYPOINTS structure into a stack buffer too small for the message. Reaching the flaw requires local access to a PX4 simulation or equivalent MAVLink input path, and the demonstrated consequence is process termination.
