Account compromise via unrestricted HTML file upload
Published Sep 8, 2025 · Updated Sep 8, 2025
Stored XSS in the Chat Trigger component of n8n 1.95.3, 1.100.1, and 1.101.1 allows remote authenticated users to compromise accounts. Chat Trigger accepts HTML uploads without restricting file type or validating active content, then serves them in the application's browser context. Exploitation requires another user to open or preview the uploaded file; script execution can steal session tokens or act with that user's privileges.
