Privileged session compromise via HTML avatar upload
Published Aug 28, 2025 · Updated Aug 28, 2025
Stored XSS in FormCMS 0.5.5 and 0.5.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript via a crafted avatar upload. The /api/profile/avatar endpoint accepts an HTML file, stores it beneath the publicly accessible /files/avatar path, and exposes its URL without access control. Execution requires a privileged user to open the attacker-supplied link, after which the script can issue unauthorized API actions in that user's session.
