CVE-2025-56226Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service interruption via unreleased MP3 encoder resources

Published Jan 14, 2026 · Updated Jan 14, 2026

Memory leak in libsndfile 1.1.0 through 1.2.2 allows attackers to consume process memory when converting crafted audio to MP3. mpeg_l3_encoder_init calls lame_init but can return on an unsupported output sample rate before assigning mpeg_l3_encoder_close to codec_close, leaving encoder resources allocated. The path requires MP3 encoding of audio with an unsupported sample rate; each failed initialization leaks memory, while sustained interruption requires repeated invocation in a long-lived process.
