XSS and open redirects via scheme misparsing
Published Sep 30, 2025 · Updated Sep 30, 2025
URL validation bypass in validator.js before 13.15.20 allows remote attackers to enable XSS or open redirects through crafted URLs. The isURL function treats only :// as a scheme delimiter, so a javascript: URL can be parsed as credentials and pass protocol and host allowlists. Exploitation requires an application to use the accepted string for browser navigation and user interaction to trigger the resulting script or redirect.
