Unauthenticated code execution via oversized REGET argument
Published Jun 4, 2025 · Updated Jun 4, 2025
Classic buffer overflow in FreeFloat FTP Server 1.0 allows remote attackers to execute code by sending an oversized REGET command argument. The REGET command handler copies attacker-controlled argument data into a fixed-size memory buffer without enforcing its capacity. No authentication or user interaction is required; successful exploitation overwrites control data and runs attacker-supplied code in the FTP server process.
