Console manipulation via unescaped log control characters

Published Oct 27, 2025 · Updated Oct 27, 2025

Log escape-sequence injection in affected Apache Tomcat releases allows remote attackers to manipulate ANSI-capable Windows consoles. JdkLoggerFormatter and OneLineFormatter appended request-derived log messages without escaping control characters before console output. Exploitation requires Tomcat to run in an ANSI-capable console and an administrator to act on clipboard or display manipulation; Apache found no working attack vector.
