Application crash via unchecked ESD URL pointer
Published Jun 15, 2026 · Updated Jun 15, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in GPAC MP4Box 2.4 allows attackers to crash the application by processing a crafted MP4 file. The gf_media_map_esd function passes the unvalidated esd->URLString pointer from corrupted Elementary Stream Descriptor data to strlen, which reads address zero when the field is absent. Exploitation requires a crafted file to be supplied and processed during fragmentation, interrupting only the MP4Box process.
