CVE-2025-55335

Local privilege escalation via NTFS use-after-free

Published Oct 14, 2025 · Updated Oct 14, 2025

Use-after-free in Windows NTFS allows local users to elevate privileges by triggering a race in filesystem resource handling. Microsoft identifies concurrent access to a shared resource but has not disclosed the function, object, or sequence that frees and later reuses it. Exploitation requires local execution and winning a high-complexity race, grants elevated Windows privileges, and needs no separate user interaction.
