Arbitrary file overwrite via rendered path traversal
Published Aug 18, 2025 · Updated Aug 18, 2025
Path traversal in copier-org Copier 7.1.0 through 9.9.0 allows context-dependent attackers to overwrite files via a crafted template. During generated-directory rendering, _render_template accepts absolute or parent-relative output paths produced by pathjoin without confirming that their resolved destinations remain beneath the project directory. Exploitation requires a user or process to render an attacker-controlled template, after which files writable by that process can be replaced.
