CVE-2025-55014Network attack vector

X11 selection disclosure via cleartext dictionary requests

Published Aug 4, 2025 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Information disclosure in the YouDao plugin for StarDict 3.0.7+git20220909+dfsg-6 allows remote attackers to read X11 selections via cleartext HTTP. The plugin monitors the X11 selection and automatically places its contents in unencrypted requests to dict.youdao.com and dict.cn. The default Debian X11 configuration exposes selections from other applications without a dictionary lookup, allowing the destination services and network observers to read potentially sensitive text.
