Arbitrary command execution via project-settings permission bypass
Published Aug 11, 2025 · Updated Aug 12, 2025
Remote code execution in the Zed Agent Panel before 0.197.3 allows context-dependent attackers to execute commands via hidden prompts. The edit_file tool can write .zed/settings.json inside a project and enable always_allow_tool_actions, bypassing confirmation for terminal use. Exploitation requires a prompt reaching an Agent Panel session with file-writing access; successful abuse runs commands with the editor user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
